Im really interested in this. The more answers we get the more general idea we should get what you want from Fonal.

What is your favourite album format? If you wish please leave a little message why and what do you buy the most? Just be honest :)

Should I also put in "illegal format" as well then? :D Lets just assume that I mean legal DD, like we assume I dont mean CD-R's neither :)

What is your favourite format to buy records?

Vinyl can sound more musical than digital but only if it's pressed properly, otherwise the distortion is just a distraction.Fonal records a brilliantly cut I think and compete with the 180g pressings out there, but records still need to be maintained (dust!)

I prefer CD because it's uncompressed PCM and you get artwork with it, Fonal artwork being important because it comes in great packaging and seeing a bunch of fonal record spines lined up in a CD rack looks like an series of important historical documents!

FLAC downloads are great, the problem with MP3s is that you end up with one resolution - you dont have a master to make say a high quality 320kbps version for the home and a 192kbps version for the mp3 player.

As for the artwork I would happily go ALL DOWNLOAD if the was say a "Book Of Fonal Art" available annually :)

hope the long reply is not unwelcome, it's a passionate subject!

I always buy the cd, but I haven't listened music from one in a long time. It's just nice to have the art and something that I can touch. But I always compress the music to FLACs and listen them from my computer.

So I'd like to see an option to buy the cd, and for that price you'll also get to download the album in FLAC (or in other formats for those who prefer them). This way I get to listen to the album right away, instead of first waiting for it to be posted and then go through the trouble of copying the album to my computer.

Vinyl by far. The huge artwork, the inserts, the fragility, the craftsmanship, it all adds up to something almost magical. They may not be as practical as CD's or downloads, but they just seem so puny in comparison and are easy to lose.
CD's feel a bit odd to me, the jewelcase is usually too small to do the artwork any right, and playing it isn't nearly as handy as clicking a song in some media player. But still, they're my second choice when buying music.
And to be honest, I can't see myself paying for a digital download anytime soon. I think packaging, booklets and cover art is of uttermost importance when releasing an album, that a pure digital download never feels quite complete.
Don't know how to feel about cassettes, last time I listened to one must've been somewhere in the mid-90's, prepuberty, disregarding for my own tape deck which I sometimes use for art performances.

I always buy the vinyl if its avaliable, it just feels warmer or maybe its because it the format I grew up with (being 43).

I really like the idea of tapes. But also think vinyl records look really classy.

I voted for vinyl because the artwork is presented so much better in the vinyl form. And I just love different coloured and picture LPs! :) Digital download would otherwise be ok but I like to have something I can touch and see and know for sure that I have even if my computer would broke. And I don't accidently move CDs to trash can :D

But I really like the idea of "Book Of Fonal Art"!
