Paavoharju - Laulu laakson kukista English lyrics

Postby Lauri » 23 Nov 2008, 19:11

1. A joyful dance in the dark

A temple gets filled with smoke
Strange faces are seen on an open lake
The underworld’s cranes gather to the blue

Whispers, whispers, whispers

The roar of rain on a tin roof combines
With the portable television’s random-dot-pattern-noise
And hymns coloured by an old vinyl player

2. Spring drum

I watch for the spring and the breaking day
The crescent slashes the clouds
Light circles round the sky by now

Refreshed by the wind
I’m picking flowers of last summer

3. The scent clings on us

Full of dreams and longing
A sweet rose-red on her cheeks
Scent of a moist sward
Dreaming turquoise clouds

4. Italian ship

On a beautiful, white Italian ship
a lady travels lightly in a following wind of words.
And old Finnish pop songs
Grannies’ favourite tunes bother her.
All those songs are full of longing
And longing
- It is from death.

On a beautiful, white Italian ship
“I must go away, to Naples – no, to Venice”.
But how is it, you poor, young man -
those pieces, you can’t gather them up
for they are sprinkled all over the world -
You scream; ….devils are rolling your ship!

On a beautiful, white Italian ship
A lady travels lightly in a following wind of words.
And when your ship vanishes away
I know, your way can only end up to Shangri-La.
Then, will you ever remember
The one who wished to own of your heart, anymore?

5. ALANIA
(instrumental)

6. I dare

Pouring rain peels soil from the rocks.
Gust of wind carried me too.
Differently than ever, let's rise to the mountains of million swords and rains

Five summers I pondered if I dare
and so I decided to open my eyes.
raindrops shatter on my lips
and fiery streams flow to my heart.

foamy waves eat rocks to the sea
streams of the sea carried you too
Differently than ever, let's dive to the dark blue deep of million stars

Five summers I pondered if I dare
and so I decided to open my eyes.
raindrops shatter on my lips
and fiery streams flow to my heart.

7. Ursula’s dream

An enormous swirl

Weird paintings on the walls

8. Folk of church

Cat owls arrive lashing the air

Folk of church’s past and gone time’s
Convoys the nights is full
As they reach the hill of churchyard
Lights are lit as in a vision

Underworlds folk’s soily fingers
Playing the organ, thousand of those
Within the chant join all the dead tongues,
floorboards and creaking joints

Mouldy old women and men rose from their graves with a burning look in their eyes

9. A Secret room
(instrumental)

10. A girl dances

To her journey the night lets her loose
An eye reflects the stars
A crimson mist
Makes a veil on her hair

A girl dances along with the moon and the stars
Eyes twinkle like those stars - I swear, I hear the music playing
She dances with the fishes of waters now
Lips are blue as the water’s chilly frost
Why won't you dwell on dancing?
Why won't you dwell on dancing?

Deep in the dark water
A dance goes on forever, unendingly
On the girls elfin figure
Fishes scales are fastened

11. Haze hymn

An endless field of waves
And a small, petite ship
Mind sees a horizon
But how did it all turn out then?

Skies were covered by crows and clouds
The voyage was followed by those pursuers
A silent heart sound could be heard
But how did it all turn out then?

The sky was pouring through night and day
I looked out to the open sea and slit my eyes
New ships lights I saw
But how did it all turn out then?

(lyrics mostly translated by Emmi Uimonen)

Hooray!
Was just beginning to look around to see if y'alls lyrics had been translated...now I'll know what it is exactly that I've been singing along-to so blissfully for the last half year. :D

I should also mention, in not being a particularly religious person but a very spiritual person who tries to treat all life with high-regard and other people in ways in which I'd like to be treated, I'd like to say that your two albums have really been the best ambassadors for Christianity that I've ever experienced. I think what you're communicating is very real and pure and I think that I can really feel it in your recordings...
