I experienced a nearly perfect evening, discovering loads of new stuff ( I only knew Islaja's music and I'd heard of Kiila's great live reputation but never listened to any of their stuff before!). It was not entirely perfect because of the noisy crowd, damn, almost felt ashamed to be in the audience at some moments during the performances.
Anyway, Ville 'the entertainer' Leinonen was first on to perform and brought a smile to many people's faces. Nice covers, but I especially liked his own stuff. Think I'm gonna have to check out some records by him.
Next on was Islaja, and that's where a big part of the audience managed to spoil the magic by their talking. Nevertheless a fine performance with a couple of hypnotizing moments (and respect to the evillooking drumming rabbit :) ). Definitely gonna be there when she returns in september (read somewhere that Shogun Kunitoki will also perform at the same festival, seems we're in for a treat!)
Highest on the bill that evening was Kiila, and damn, they blew me away! Lots of energy during some uptempo songs with cool percussion and a couple of more intimistic moments. A nicely balance gig, wish it could have lasted a bit longer if it wasn't for the noisy crowd and that one drunk geezer ruining it completely. Anyway, hope Kiila as well will be back in september (my hopes are high since I've found out that a part of the Klarafestival will be all about the Finnish music scene! Yeah!)
Before and after the gig I bought a couple of cd's (the last Kiila and Shogun record as well as Islaja's Palaa Aurinkoon, which were all ridiculously cheap, thanks for that!!) Been listening to it nonstop and it's, as expected, all quality stuff! Will definitely keep an eye on all future fonal releases, keep up the good work!)
